We believe we are faced with a confirmation of the universality of the pandemic lockdown experience, indeed a zeitgeist of insecurity, boredom, self-reflection, but also hope and creative energy.
The Story
‘When in Quarantine’ is a video art project that brings to life the thoughts and sensations of living through the COVID-19 lockdown, as experienced by two young artists. Although going through the lockdown in different countries, at opposite ends of the European continent (Spain and Romania), Todica’s words and Garbea’s graphic interpretations come together in a coherent chain of feelings and reflexive questions. During the creation process, there was little to no feedback between the two artists- the writer would send the sentences which the visual artist would illustrate, without discussing them. In the end, the artists were faced with the surprise of creating something very true to both of them, an accurate depiction of their inner and outer reality. We believe we are faced with a confirmation of the universality of the pandemic lockdown experience, indeed a zeitgeist of insecurity, boredom, self-reflection, but also hope and creative energy.
